The Real Exhaustion
Somewhere along the way, teaching stopped being only about teaching. Today, educators are expected to be lesson designers, report writers, administrators, event planners, behavior managers, and sometimes even emotional anchors for entire classrooms.
The actual act of teaching—the part most teachers entered this profession for—often becomes the smallest portion of their day. The real exhaustion doesn’t always come from the students, but from everything surrounding the students.
What makes this even more invisible is that much of this work happens quietly. It happens after school hours, late at night, on weekends, and in stolen moments between responsibilities. Teachers rarely call it burnout. They simply call it “normal.”
But when a profession built on passion starts running only on survival, something has to change. The question is no longer whether teachers are working hard. The question is why they are working this much just to keep up.
So What Needs to Change
This is where the conversation around AI in education needs a different lens. AI is not meant to replace teachers, and it certainly should not become another complicated tool that adds pressure.
Instead, its most meaningful role could be something far simpler: giving teachers their time back.

Perhaps the future of education isn’t about more technology, but about more breathing space.
